Maritime Magic - 30x40 Schooner

I didn't know what this experience would be.  I painted the 30x40 canvas with yellow ochre first, thinking that dealing with white would be just that much more of a challenge.

I am very happy with the results.

It is strange that a subconscious notion that told me when the painting was done.  

My conscious self thought I was finished at the second to last painting.  

​But something about the sails nagged at me.  I can hear my teachers' voices as I paint.  And this is what I heard. "The sails don't hold in the mass."  In other words, they were jumping out at me, not in a good way.  They were distracting me from the rest of the painting.  Now,my eyes go to the sails, but then they are released to wander around the rest of the painting.
