Painting Everyday is a Good Thing

Starting January 1, 2016, I am committed to painting every day, and then posting it online along with hundreds of other artists from around the world. If you recall, I was inspired to paint everyday at the Park Hill Orchards in Easthampton, MA starting in September and on into October. As the days went on, I liked my paintings more and more. I also took more risks I think because each painting became less precious. These 11x14 paintings are in no particular order in terms of chronology. Most but not all are available.

What I learned from this experience is

getting out there to paint is easier in that the decision of "should I or shouldn't I" is already made
the commitment to paint in the same place everyday also removed another huge decision, where should I paint today?? Some days I would ride around in my car and come back empty handed because I couldn't settle on a scene.
painting consistently afforded me a chance to get to know my hosts, allowed me to chat with passersby and I got to see the workings of the orchard.

Last winter I bundled up enough to face the winter freeze and paint outside. If you were around in New England, you'll remember just how cold it was. I promised myself that I would not let the weather keep me from what I love most, plein air painting.
This winter, if you can call it that, is woefully devoid of the white fluffy stuff.
